South Africa have been dealt a huge blow as their star bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the third One-day international against Australia due to an injury. He was included in the playing XI for the 2nd match at Blofemntion after missing the first.

Nortje bowled only 5 overs and gave away 58 runs as Australia piled on 392 for 8 in 50 overs. It was a dominating batting performance by Travis Head and David Warner recorded 109 runs in 11.5 overs. David Warner 106, Marnus Labuschagne 124, and Josh Inglis scored a half-century. Despite losing wickets at the end, the Australian team posted 392 for 8.

In reply, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma provided a flying start putting on 81 runs in quick time before losing wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for 269 runs to give Australia a thumping 123 runs win to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match ODI series.

Anrich Nortje went off the field due to a back spasm. He returned for batting but will need further medical treatment.  South Africa is trailing 0-2 in the five-match ODI series against mighty Australian side and will need to the third One-day international to be played on 12th September 2023 at JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom.

The pacer Anrich Nortje has been included in the 15-member squad in the 2023 World Cup starting from 5th October. They will begin their campaign on 7th October at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Nortje will play a key role for South Africa providing early wickets with the new ball and can trouble the opponents with pace and control. After the 3rd ODI match against Aus tomorrow, they will play another 2 matches against the same opponent on 15th September at Centurion and will end the series with the 5th ODI to be played at Johannesburg on 17th.

South African captain Temba Bavuma is awaiting the results of the scan and hopes that Nortje could be fit with the tournament less than a month away.
