Indian skipper Virat Kohli has a point to prove in the upcoming Test series against South Africa. It all starts at Centurion from December 26. The Indian side are seeking their maiden test series win on South African soil. Kohli lost his last series as skipper in South Africa by 2-1 back in 2018. The series will be a part of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.
Virat Kohli has a few records to achieve in the first Test. He has not been in the best of form along with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Selecting the middle-order will be a tough job for him along with making sure that he scores some much-needed runs in the Test match. Here are three records Virat Kohli can break at Centurion.
Virat Kohli Eyes 71st International Ton In Centurion
1 More To Score 71 International Centuries
Kohli has not scored an international century for more than two years now. His last international century came back in 2019 in the Pink-Ball Test against Bangladesh. He has scored 70 international tons till date and is third in the list of all-time century makers in international cricket.
Kohli needs one more to get to his 71st international century and go level with Ricky Ponting in the process. He has 27 Test tons and 43 in ODIs making it 70 so far.
667 Runs To Become Highest Scorer Vs SA In Tests
Sachin Tendulkar with 1741 is the highest run-getter among the Indian batsmen against South Africa. Kohli (1075) requires another 667 to get past the Little Master and become India’s highest run-getter against South Africa in the format. He is primed to get the runs in the three-match series.
2 Shy Of Completing 100 Test Catches
Virat Kohli has been an outstanding fielder for India across formats. He requires another couple of catches to get to 100 catches in the format. His teammate Ajinkya Rahane needs another three catches to complete 100 catches in Test cricket.
