In the wake of KL Rahul‘s remarkable half-century against South Africa, enthusiasts expressed their admiration, deeming this performance equivalent to a century. Following a T20I series draw and a 2-1 ODI victory against South Africa, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, found themselves grappling with challenging conditions in the first Test match at Centurion.
Despite the early dismissal of key batters, including skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, India’s dependable wicketkeeper-batsman, played a crucial role in averting a potential crisis.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, saw his team dismantle India’s top order in just 12 overs.
However, after Virat Kohli (38) and Shreyas Iyer (31) forged a 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket, KL Rahul stepped in as the linchpin of India’s innings. Entering the fray at no.5 when India was at 92 runs, Rahul showcased his prowess by notching his 14th Test half-century, punctuated by a spectacular six over deep third.

KL Rahul’s innings was a testament to his resilience, earning accolades from fans who lauded his efforts in rescuing the Indian side from a precarious situation. With seven boundaries and two sixes, Rahul reached his 14th Test half-century and 54th across all cricket formats. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman played a pivotal role in steering India past the 200-run mark in the 58th over, displaying his dominance with consecutive boundaries against Gerald Coetzee.
