SA vs IND: Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Virat Kohli’s 13-Year-Old Record With A Dynamic Half-Century

Suryakumar Yadav‘s T20I success is on the upswing, and he marked India’s tour of South Africa by becoming the fastest Indian to reach 2000 T20I runs. Achieving this milestone in his 56th innings, Suryakumar accomplished the feat with a single, starting the SA tour after India’s T20I series win against Australia.

Suryakumar Yadav has equaled Virat Kohli’s innings record but achieved the 2000-run milestone in T20Is one match quicker. SKY played his 59th T20I game for India, while Kohli, who reached 2K runs against England, required an additional game (60) back in Manchester in 2010.

Suryakumar Yadav claimed the top spot as the No. 1-ranked T20I batter in October 2022 and has maintained this position since then. Suryakumar Yadav executed his signature lap sweep, sending the ball over the boundary for six runs.

With 1164 runs in 31 matches last year, he continued his stellar performance in 2023, accumulating 592 runs from 17 matches at an impressive average of 45.53 and a strike rate exceeding 153. This includes one century and four fifties.

In the second T20I, Suryakumar Yadav took charge as India’s captain after rain disrupted the opening match. Facing early setbacks with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill departing for ducks, Surya showcased his prowess by reaching a 28-ball fifty.

Despite India’s challenging position at 6/2 after 2 overs, Suryakumar, alongside Tilak Varma, played aggressively. Following Tilak Varma’s impressive 19 runs off Jansen’s over, Suryakumar Yadav showcased his skills by taking 15 runs from Gerald Coetzee’s first over.

Continuing his aggressive approach with three fours and another six, Surya reached his fifty in under 11 overs as India crossed the 100-run mark. Unfortunately, Suryakumar’s innings concluded at 56 as he chipped Tabraiz Shamsi’s delivery to long-off.
