Team India batter Virat Kohli’s valiant effort went in vain during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The visitors lost the match by an innings and 32 runs, handing South Africa a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. During the match, Virat Kohli achieved a unique feat.

The former Indian skipper scored 76 runs in the second innings of the Test. He was the lone warrior in the innings for India. However, they succumbed to 131 runs. Virat Kohli also scored 38 runs in the first innings of the Test. During the match, he completed 2000 International runs in the 2023 calendar year.

Virat Kohli has scored 2048 runs at an average of 66.06 in International cricket this year. He has slammed eight centuries and ten fifties in the tournament. This is the seventh occasion of him scoring 2000 or more International runs in a calendar year. He became the first cricketer to achieve this feat. He has previously scored 2000 or more International runs in the years, 2012 (2186 runs), 2014 (2286 runs), 2016 (2595 runs), 2017 (2818 runs), 2018 (2735 runs), and 2019 (2455 runs).

Virat Kohli becomes the highest run-scorer for India in WTC

Team India batter Virat Kohli achieved another landmark during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. He became the highest run-scorer for India in the World Test Championship (WTC). He surpassed Rohit Sharma in the list. The veteran batter has scored 2101 runs in 57 innings in the World Test Championship. Rohit Sharma is now second while Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane follow him on the list. Overall, Virat Kohli has scored 8790 runs in Test cricket at an average of 49.38, including 29 centuries and 30 fifties.
