SA vs IND: [WATCH]- Virat Kohli Convinces Rohit Sharma To Take The DRS To Dismiss Kyle Verrennye In The 1st Test

In the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, Virat Kohli played a vital part in persuading Captain Rohit Sharma to use the DRS on Day 2. This successful review led to a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Kyle Verrennye.

KL Rahul’s impressive century earlier on Wednesday took India to a respectable total of 245 runs in the first session. However, South Africa dominated the next two sessions with the bat, giving them the advantage as they head into Day 3.

In his farewell series, Dean Elgar showcased his batting prowess, scoring an impressive 140* (211). His exceptional innings, nearly on his own, allowed the hosts to finish the day with an 11-run lead. Supported by David Bedingham (56) and Tony de Zorzi (28), Elgar added to the challenges faced by the Indian bowlers.

In the last session, newcomer bowler Prasidh Krishna caused South African wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne to edge the ball, caught safely by KL Rahul behind the stumps. Despite the loud appeal from the Indian team, the on-field umpire rejected it.

Virat Kohli, positioned in the slips, quickly signaled to Rohit Sharma, convincing him to opt for the DRS review. After the snickometer detected a sound, the third umpire confirmed the batter’s dismissal.

“I don’t think they bowled as well as they could”- Dinesh Karthik’s view on India’s bowlers in the 1st Test against South Africa on Day 2

Dinesh Karthik expressed that Indian bowlers didn’t capitalize on the conditions and lacked consistency in their performance against South Africa on Wednesday. Discussing the 1st Test’s second day on Cricbuzz, Karthik shared his viewpoint:

“When we saw the pitch yesterday, we got the feeling that there is going to be a lot on offer for the fast bowlers, which there was. But I don’t think they bowled as well as they could. One of those days where consistency in length did not really come through.”

Karthik praised Elgar for being aggressive against the Indian bowlers and leading South Africa’s batting lineup. He mentioned:

“I thought he played a wonderful knock. It was one of those knocks which was laced with a lot of Dean Elgar kind of shots, leaving the ball, playing tough cricket, and just putting away the ones that were close to him or the ones that were really short.”
