The SA20 league is in its second year with some brilliant batting that changed the course of the matches and helped their franchise register victories. It has some superb T20I batters from various countries like England, South Africa, West Indies.

There are a total of 6 teams in the competition called the defending Champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Johannesburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Mumbai Cape Town, Paarl Royals, and Pretoria Capitals playing according to their province.

There have been some sensational batting by the batters last year and also great batting displays this year so far.

Here we look at the 5 Fastest fifty in SA T20 Tournament History:

  1. Donovan Ferriera

The hard-hitting South African batter, Donovan Ferriera scored the fastest half-century of SA T20 tournament history. He achieved this feat for Johannesburg Super Kings against Pretoria Capitals at Wanders, Johannesburg on 20th January 2024.

Chasing down 168 runs to win, Ferriera came to the crease with Johannesburg Super Kings in trouble at 94 for 4. Ferreria took the charge with some brutal hitting not allowing Capitals bowlers to settle smashing fifty off just 18 balls. Johannesburg Super Kings won the match comfortably by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Donovan Ferreria was named the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 56 off 25 deliveries with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

It was a brilliant batting display by Ferriera not allowing the Capitals bowlers to settle and helping Johannesburg Super Kings register their first victory of SA T20 2024.

  1. Heinrich Klassen

The explosive right-handed batter Heinrich Klassen showed his power-hitting. He put on an excellent batting display reaching fifty off 19 balls for Durban Super Giants against Paarl Royals at Kingsmead, Durban on 15th January 2023.

Coming at number 4, Klassen took the charge with brutal hitting smashing 50 off just 19 balls with 1 four and 6 sixes that helped Durban Super Giants smash 216 for 4 in 20 overs. Paarl Royals fell short of the target by 27 runs as they made 189 for 8.

Klassen made the batting look easy against Royals bowling with big sixes that helped Durban Super Giants post a sizeable total. For his brilliance, Klassen was named the player of the match award.

  1. Faf du Plessis

Johannesburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis also proved his worth with a quickfire 50 off 19 balls against Pretoria Capitals at SuperSport Park, Centurion on 18th January 2023.

Faf du Plessis played with intent showing intent against Pretoria Capitals bowling smashing fifty off 19 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 51 off 22 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 231.82. Despite his knock, Johannesburg Super Kings were bowled out for 122 in 15.4 overs.

Pretoria Capitals won the match comfortably by 6 wickets with 7 overs to spare. Faf du Plessis looked in sublime touch while the rest of the Super King’s batters struggled.

  1. Will Jacks

The hard-hitting England batter, Will Jacks also displayed brilliant batting with fifty off 19 balls for Pretoria Capitals against Mumbai Indian Cape Town on 23rd January 2023 in Newlands, Cape Town.

Will Jacks took the charge with some lovely batting putting enough pressure on Mumbai bowlers. He smashed fifty off 19 balls keeping momentum going for the Capitals team. Will Jacks was eventually dismissed for 62 off 27 deliveries with 5 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 229.63. His knock helped the Capitals post 182 for 8 in 20 overs.

Mumbai Indian Cape Town failed to chase down the target as Capitals won the match by 52 runs. For his brilliance, Will Jacks was named Player of the Match award.

  1. Marco Jansen

South African all-rounder Marco Jansen showed his skills with a special knock with fifty off 20 balls for Sunrisers Eastern Cape against Mumbai Indians Cape Town on 18th January 2023 at Newlands, Cape Town.

Chasing down 172 runs to win, Marco Jansen came to the crease with Sunrisers Eastern Cape struggling at 101 for 6. Jansen showed his skills with superb batting smashing Mumbai bowlers all over the park reaching fifty off 20 balls. His knock ensured that Sunrisers Eastern Cape held their nerves to win the match by 2 wickets with 3 balls to spare.

For his 66 off 27 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 244.44, Marco Jansen was named the player of the match award.
