Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has called out a fake video featuring him which has gone viral on social media. He expressed that it is disturbing to see the misuse of technology. The fake video was being shared widely on social media before the former cricketer called it out.
In the edited video, Sachin Tendulkar can be seen promoting an online game. He gives the example of his daughter, Sara Tendulkar earning Rs 1.8 lakh per day by making predictions in the game. Sachin Tendulkar revealed that the video is fake. The video has been created using deepfake, making the legendary cricket the latest victim of identity fraud. Many celebrities have been a victim of this in the past including actress Rashmika Mandana.
“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deep fakes,” wrote Sachin Tendulkar on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Union Minister responds to Sachin Tendulkar’s tweet
In his post, Sachin Tendulkar also alerted the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State, and Maharashtra Cyber Crime. Following his post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Chandrasekhar responded that the Ministry is working towards implementing tighter rules under the IT Act to ensure compliance by platforms.

A recent Advisory by @GoI_MeitY requires platforms to comply with this 100%. We will be shortly notifying tighter rules under IT Act to ensure compliance by platforms,” Chandrasekhar posted on ‘X’.
