Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has shared some tips for the current Indian batsmen to succeed with the bat in their upcoming Test series against South Africa. India begin their campaign with the first Test in Centurion from January 26. The series will be played behind closed doors.

Talking to Boria Majumdar on Backstage With Boria, Sachin Tendulkar spoke about how to maintain the basic technique which will then help the modern batsmen to do their best in alien conditions. He stressed specifically on the front foot defence and playing the balls on the front foot.

“I’ve always said, front foot defence is important. Up front, front foot defence is important. And that front foot defence is going to count here. The first 25 overs, front foot defence is going to be critical” said the icon cricketer.

Tendulkar also spoke about how the Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma played on the front foot which is what they scored runs on the testing wickets in England.

“And that is what we got to see in England when Rahul got those runs and so did Rohit. Their front foot defence was solid,” the 48-year-old said.

He also emphasised on the importance of playing close to the body in the South African wickets.

“The hands were not going away from the body. When your hands start going away from your body, that is when you start losing control slowly, but surely. And the beauty was their hands were not going away.”

South Africa Series To Be Played Behind Closed Doors

India are set to tour South Africa for three Tests and as many ODIs. All the matches will be played behind closed doors.

“We acknowledge the interest expressed by the fans and other stakeholders on being able to return to stadiums and want to assure all cricket fans that this decision was not taken lightly, but was instead taken in the best interest of the game and in the interest of the health and safety of all patrons. Consequently, we urge all sport lovers to exercise absolute care, during these extraordinary times. I also wish to take this time to urge all South Africans to continue spreading the positive messages of VACCINATION, VACCINATION AND VACCINATION, because this is the only way that we can truly get our country back into its high economic activity, which will assist government to open up the economy and all its forms of economic activity, including allowing greater numbers of fans back into stadiums” Pholetsi Moseki, CSA Acting Chief Executive Officer said.
