Former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh expressed skepticism over Chennai Super Kings’ potential move to acquire Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Although the trade hasn’t been officially confirmed, reports indicate it is likely to happen.
Ramesh questioned Samson’s ability to succeed on Chennai’s turning tracks, citing his poor IPL record at Chepauk. The 31-year-old has managed just an 11.80 average in five matches at the stadium. Discussing the potential CSK-Samson deal on his YouTube channel, Ramesh stated:
“Sanju Samson doesn’t have great numbers at Chepauk. But it’s a small sample size, so if he plays continuously there, he’ll likely thrive there as well. Yet, there is a question mark about his batting on turning tracks. Jadeja is an unplayable bowler on turning tracks, while Samson hasn’t produced great performances on turning tracks.”
He further added:
“So, leaving Jadeja will definitely weaken CSK. But whether acquiring Sanju strengthens them remains to be seen. Likewise, Jadeja will also be challenged at RR because of the flat wickets there.”
Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja have been key players for RR and CSK over eight IPL seasons, with earlier stints at the franchises before brief moves to DC and GL during RR and CSK’s 2016–17 bans.

Sadagoppan Ramesh feels CSK will feel Ravindra Jadeja’s absence in every aspect, particularly in home matches. The 36-year-old has been crucial to CSK’s triumphs in their last three IPL titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
“Jadeja has especially been the biggest commander of Chepauk for CSK. He has singlehandedly won so many matches for CSK. Even if his overall numbers don’t give a staggering effect, he has delivered in several key moments. Also with his fielding and catching, he must have saved an extra 200-300 runs overall for CSK. He still has an easy 2-3 years left in the IPL with his fitness,” said Ramesh (via the aforementioned source).
