New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra shared his thoughts on his bowling performance, which was crucial throughout the 2025 Champions Trophy. The left-arm spinner bowled a full spell in the final against India, who defeated the Blackcaps by four wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
Ravindra completed his 10-over quota for the first time in an ODI since the 2023 World Cup league-stage match against the Netherlands, conceding 47 runs and taking the key wicket of Rohit Sharma (76). On Dubai’s slow surface, he was brought in by skipper Mitchell Santner when India had two right-handers at the crease.
He bowled in tandem with Michael Bracewell, applying pressure in the middle overs. After the match, Ravindra revealed that his captain often jokes about his bowling work rate during net sessions.
“I always like to bowl. Santner always gives me a bit of banter that I don’t bowl much in the nets. All members of the squad have a part to play. There isn’t an established player or a newbie. We go about our business and play like a team,” Ravindra said during the post-match presentation after being named the Player of the Tournament (via News18).
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner praises Rachin Ravindra for stepping up with the ball
Rachin Ravindra bowled in all three phases of the innings during the final, starting in the first powerplay, delivering most of his overs in the middle, and finishing as late as the 46th over. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had to carefully manage his spinners, especially after Glenn Phillips struggled to make an impact.
He lauded Ravindra’s all-round performance in the match. He stated:
“We have seen how he steps up in these tournaments. With the ball as well, he stepped up. He understands the game at such a young age. He’s got a massive future. Even today, he went over a run a ball (with the bat),” Santner said during the post-match presentation (via News18).
