“Sarfaraz Khan Should Have Been Playing For India” – Dilip Vengsarkar
Sarfaraz Khan has been in blistering form in Ranji Trophy 2022

Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has expressed his disappointment over Sarfaraz Khan’s non-inclusion in the Indian team. He reckons that the Mumbai batter should have been a part of the team after scoring a truckload of runs in domestic cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan is making headlines with his prolific performance in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season. He is the top-run getter in the tournament so far, scoring 704 runs at an average of 140.80. His biggest forte is to convert his starts into big scores. This season, he has slammed a double century and two 150-plus scores.

In the recent quarter-finals match against Uttarakhand, Sarfaraz Khan smashed 153 runs off 205 deliveries, including fourteen boundaries and four sixes. Owing to his consistent performance, there have been calls for his inclusion in the Indian team.

Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar too echoed the same thoughts during his conversation with Khaleej Times. He expressed:

“He should have been playing for India at the moment. He has scored tons of runs every time (in Ranji Trophy). And if the selectors are still not convinced, then I am really surprised.”

“What else can he do to get into the Indian squad? Every year, he has scored more than 800 runs for Mumbai. I have seen him since he was 12. He is a street-smart cricketer. He is always hungry for success. He is very fit and the most important thing is that he can play long innings,” he added.

Sarfaraz Khan has to ability to win matches, which is very rare in batsmen: Dilip Vengsarkar

Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar further added that Sarfaraz Khan is a match-winner, which is a rare quality in batters. He expressed that the right-hander is a treat to watch when he starts to take on the bowlers. Dilip Vengsarkar said:

“He has the ability to win matches, which is very rare in batsmen. He has scored runs against pace, against spin. So, what else can he do? He is scoring runs consistently. Once he hits the fourth gear, he is a treat to watch.”

Sarfaraz Khan will be seen in action in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, June 14.
