The Indian fast bowlers showed their class with Jasprit Bumrah picking his maiden 5 wicket haul in test match while Bhuvneshwar Kumar created pressure on South African batsmen. South Africa took the lead of 7 runs with Hashim Amla top scorer. At the end of day 2, India scored 49 for 1.

Starting on the overnight score of 6 for 1, Bhuvneshwar Kumar got an early wicket of Dean Elgar. Kagiso Rabada and Hashim Amla were struggling against the Indian pacers but played some positives strokes. Rabada looked solid in his defense while Hashim Amla. South Africa ended the second session at 143 for 6.

In the final session, Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander added 44 runs for the 7th wicket. Hashim Amla was dismissed for 61. Vernon Philander made a valuable 35 runs. South Africa was bowled out for 194. Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with 3 wickets. Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami shared 1 wicket each.

In their second innings, Parthiv Patel and Murali Vijay came to open. Parthiv Patel scored a quick fire 16 off 15 balls. Parthiv Patel was dismissed by Vernon Philander. KL Rahul and Murali Vijay steadied the innings playing the rest of overs. India ended the 2nd day on 49 for 1 with an overall lead of 42 runs.
