Glenn Maxwell smacked 70 off 31 balls as Australia beat New Zealand by 64 runs in the third T20I to come back in the five-match series. The series stands at 2-1 after the Aussies made a magnificent comeback in Wellington. Australia scored 208/4 batting first courtesy of Maxwell’s belligerent knock. Skipper Arron Finch too scored a classy 69 to silence his critics. Finch went unsold in the recently concluded IPL 2021 player auction and this knock would certainly make a few heads turn.

Meanwhile, the seat which Glenn Maxwell destroyed during his sensational knock against New Zealand will be put up for auction. After the game, Maxwell signed the seat so it can be auctioned off for charity. Riding on skipper Aaron Finch, Maxwell and Ashton Agar’s performances, Australia bounced back in the series with a comfortable win over New Zealand.

New Zealand was 109/3 at one stage, but Agar wreaked havoc and picked six wickets to bundle out the hosts for 144. Agar turned the game in Australia’s favour with three wickets in the 13th over. He finally ended with a six-wicket haul in the match. New Zealand now lead the five-match series 2-1. Australia had posted 208/4 from their 20 overs courtesy half-centuries from Finch and Maxwell, and a quickfire 43 from Josh Philippe.

Chasing a mammoth 209, the Kiwis did not have a good start. They lost Tim Seifert and skipper Kane Williamson early. Marti Guptill scored a valiant 43 at the top. Devon Conway, the newfound Kiwi hero scored a quickfire 38 off 27 balls but ran out of partners at the other end.

The Aussies had their series against South Africa postponed earlier this year which made this series possible. It’s a five-match series with New Zealand ahead in the series currently at 2-1.

Meanwhile, Maxwell’s batting blitzkrieg has once again proved that he is one of the best in the world and is unstoppable when in full flow. He was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 14.25 crores.
