Mohammed Shami starred with the ball on his return as Team India drowned Australia by six runs in the first warm-up game at the Gabba on Monday, October 17. The veteran pacer recently landed in Australia after being named as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement.
Shami who hasn’t played a T20I game since the previous T20 World Cup was called on to bowl the last over in today’s game. There were concerns about his lack of match practice, but the critics have been silenced.
Shami ended up picking three wickets and only conceded a mere four runs. The last four balls saw as many Australian batters going back to the dugout. Shami was seen hitting the yorker length with ease which will give the Indian fans much relief.
Let’s look at some Twitter reactions:

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl. Half-centuries from both KL Rahul and Surya Kumar Yadav powered India to a score of 186-7. Both were striking at over 150+ for the team. Rahul was seen dominating the power play by dispatching balls across the boundary and setting a solid foundation for the team.
From the Aussies, captain Aaron Finch top scored with a sublime 76 runs followed by 35 of 18 balls by Mitchell Marsh. Amongst the Aussies, Kane Richardson picked up 4 wickets for 30 runs in his full quota of overs. Australia lost the match by six runs after being dismissed for 180 runs in this warm-up game.
India will play against New Zealand in the second warm-up game on Wednesday, October 19, before their T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
