Ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja struck a magnificent century as Team India strengthened their position in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali. The hosts are well placed at 468/7 at lunch on day 2.
India tightened the screws with a whopping 111 runs in the session, losing just one wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin. It’s always tough on the bowling group when they’re one bowler short in Lahiru Kumara, but the Lankans were all over the place.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin looked dominant right from the onset, knocking boundaries at will. They added over 100+ runs for the seventh wicket to put the visiting side on the back foot.
Meanwhile, the fans were extremely happy with how Jadeja has grown in stature as a batsman in the last couple of years. Fans stated that Shane Warne would have been extremely proud to see ‘Rockstar Ravindra Jadeja’ knock a hundred.
Here are some reactions:
With each passing Test, Jadeja's worth as a cricketer continues to rise. In both his presence and absence that is – he's irreplacable in the current scheme of things! What a player! #INDvSL

Hundred for "The Rockstar." The man who coined this term would've been mighty proud of Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja has to be the most improved batsmen in the last 2-3 years. #INDvSL

Ravindra Jadeja gets to his century. Devastated that his Rajasthan Royals captain is not around to congratulate the man he christened 'Rockstar Jadeja.'

So, Jadeja does go on to become the Rockstar that Warne saw in him.
Perfect day to bring in a well-deserved century.

Few weeks ago “sources” were confidently spewing bullshit like Ravindra Jadeja might retire from test cricket to pursue a long term white ball career. What a way to silence the noise right after returning from injury👏 pic.twitter.com/UYklf4UQmw

Only a Ravindra Jadeja ton from this game could've been a tribute to the great man. The kid you christened "The Rockstar" is now the best all-rounder in the world, Warnie ♥️ pic.twitter.com/7o7w3WHduQ

Here's hoping Ravindra Jadeja dedicates this hundred to Shane Warne… the man who annointed him a "Rockstar" before anyone else did. #IndvSL

Despite plenty of 50+ scores in the last few years, this is only the second Test century by Ravindra Jadeja in Test cricket. His first ton had come in 2018 against West Indies in Hyderabad.
Recently, Jadeja stated that he is enjoying batting higher up in the order after superlative outings in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
“Yes, I’m enjoying batting at number five. I can take my time and I can pace my innings according to the situation,” Jadeja said at a post-match media interaction.
“I would like to thank Rohit because he trusts me and he believes in me that I can go out there and score runs for my team. So hopefully whenever I get an opportunity in future I’ll try and do my best, play according to the situation and be in the game for my team,” he added.
