After a stellar season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year, Punjab Kings’ explosive batter Shashank Singh is set to make his mark again in the upcoming tournament. His match-winning performances in IPL 2024 brought him into the limelight, ultimately making him the ninth most searched athlete on Google worldwide. One of his standout moments was an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls against Gujarat Titans, which played a crucial role in securing victory for his team.
Reflecting on his newfound fame, Shashank admitted that he was unaware of Google’s global search rankings. However, he found it gratifying that people across India and the world were searching for his name. Despite his preference for celebrating in solitude, he acknowledged that this recognition was special.
Credit to Punjab Kings for Unwavering Support
Shashank credited Punjab Kings for his success, emphasizing the trust and support he received from the franchise. He acknowledged that while many talented cricketers compete at the highest level, Punjab Kings’ belief in him was instrumental in his rise.
Expressing gratitude for being retained by the team, he highlighted the strong bond he has developed with the franchise. “The support the management gave me last year is something very close to my heart,” he stated, adding that he now feels emotionally attached to the team.
The 33-year-old also recalled his memorable performances against Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders, stating that contributing to his team’s victories was a special feeling. He is determined to replicate his efforts this season and continue justifying the faith Punjab Kings has placed in him.
Excitement to Reunite with Former Teammates
Looking ahead to IPL 2025, Shashank expressed excitement about playing alongside Shreyas Iyer and Suryansh Shedge, both of whom he previously shared the field with in the DY Patil T20 Cup. He looked forward to playing under Shreyas’ leadership and reuniting with Suryansh, who he believes is a promising talent for both Punjab Kings and Indian cricket.
With IPL 2025 around the corner, Shashank is eager to contribute once again as Punjab Kings prepare to kick off their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
