Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan showcased outstanding form, smashing a stunning century while captaining Northern Challengers against UP Brij Stars in Match 10 of the Big Cricket League (BCL) 2024 at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Samiullah Shinwari gave a fiery start, adding 69 runs in the first six overs. Dhawan reached his fifty in 28 balls, while Shinwari hit his half-century in just 23 deliveries.

Dhawan completed his maiden BCL century on the first ball of the 14th over, reaching the milestone in just 49 balls. You can watch the video here:

The left-hander smashed 119 off 63 balls, striking 14 fours and five sixes, as he and Shinwari forged a blistering 207-run opening stand in just 98 balls. Afghanistan’s Shinwari was equally sensational, reaching his century with a six off just 43 deliveries.

Shinwari remained unbeaten on 111 off 46 balls, featuring seven fours and 11 sixes. Gurkeerat Singh Mann added a quick cameo of 31 from 10 balls, helping the Challengers post 271/2 in 20 overs—the highest total in BCL history.

Hamilton Masakadza and Chirag Gandhi hit half-centuries for UP Brij Stars

Chasing a target of 272, UP Brij Stars lost opener Apoorva Mehrotra for just seven runs. However, Hamilton Masakadza shone with the bat, smashing a fifty in 23 balls and finishing with 72 off 35 deliveries, including nine fours and five sixes.

Chirag Gandhi and Asghar Afghan (41 off 26 balls) put together a crucial third-wicket partnership, adding 98 runs in just 51 deliveries. Gandhi delivered an explosive knock, scoring a brisk 62 off 34 balls, which included three boundaries and five towering sixes, showcasing his ability to accelerate the scoring rate effectively.

At the time of writing, Brij Stars were 204/4 after 18 overs, with Raahat Agarwal (6) and Narendra Meena (11) at the crease.
