Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board after the ongoing season of PSL was indefinitely postponed over the emergence of seven new COVID positive cases. the PCB in an official statement announced the postponement of the tournament. The tournament had started on February 20 and only 14 of the 34 scheduled games took place before seven new COVID cases were reported.

The organising committee called for a meeting a day after three positive cases were reported, including Quetta Gladiators batsman Tom Banton and Karachi Kings fielding coach Kamran Khan. This comes within days of Quetta’s Fawad Ahmed testing positive, which led to the postponement of the league fixture by a day.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Shoaib Akhtar pinned the blame on the medical panel and demanded a strict inquiry against the officials of the apex Pakistan cricket board. Coming out in the defense of Wasim Khan, the former Pakistani pacer opined that the PCB CEO has been made the scapegoat after the 2021 edition of the PSL was suspended with immediate effect on Thursday.

“The medical panel should be punished and I request the higher authorities because they played with the lives of the people… All the blame has been put on Wasim Khan and he has been asked to face everything. Who has brought Wasim Khan? Ehsan Mani (brought him). Where is Mani Sahab? Is this the responsibility of Wasim Khan to answer here? Ehsan Mani should give the answer,” Akhtar said in a video shared by the former cricketer on his YouTube channel.

Further in the video, Akhtar has requested Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to look into the matter and take the necessary action required. As many as seven COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in PSL 2021 since the start of the T20 tournament on 20 February.
