The swashbuckling batsman from Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer earned his maiden India cap in 2017. Since then, he has been in and out of the squad until the management gave him a longer run following their ouster from the ICC World Cup 2019. But, Iyer has not looked back and has knocked runs consistently.
In the last tour of New Zealand, Iyer finished as India’s highest run-scorer in the ODIs while others struggled to get going. Shreyas Iyer accumulated 217 runs in 3 innings including a half-century and his maiden international hundred.

While things have started to fall in place for the youngster, his national call-up was long due. Reflecting on how he felt on receiving his maiden Team India cap, Iyer made an interesting revelation during a chat in Cricbuzz’s Spicy Pitch.
“To be honest, I wasn’t that emotional. When I got the cap because I felt that I should have gotten it way before. So whenever I was given the cap, I was like..okay..normal. I didn’t feel much,” Iyer said.

Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer took everyone through the phase when he was not getting a national call despite knocking consistent runs in the domestic cricket across formats. The cricketer from Mumbai revealed that he used to crib a lot during that period; however, later realised that it was not beneficial.
“I was very angry, I was rude, I always used to crib about not being selected. Then I realised it’s too much to think about. I am enjoying my life, I am enjoying my batting. At the same time, I have to enjoy my cricket. When you enjoy, you keep scoring. I just kept doing my job, that is to score runs. I knew one day I was selected,” Iyer concluded.
