Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill considers his collaboration with Vijay Shankar in their IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as the most disliked partnership in the tournament’s history.
In a crucial league game, RCB needed to win against GT to secure a playoff spot. However, Gill’s remarkable century and a scorching 123-run partnership off 71 deliveries with Shankar for the second wicket enabled GT to chase down 198 runs in a thrilling manner.
Vijay Shankar made a valuable contribution with 53 runs off 35 balls, leaving Shubman Gill impressed with his batting display. Gill mentioned in a video that Mohammed Siraj informed him that RCB were furious with Shankar’s performance. Here’s Gill’s statement from the video:
“I think this is the most hated partnership in the IPL (laughs with Vijay Shankar). Even in the Indian team, Siraj told me that they don’t talk about my innings as much as they do about Vijay. He was playing anything.”

Gill had a remarkable IPL 2023 season, amassing an impressive total of 890 runs from 17 matches, which included three centuries and four half-centuries. Despite his outstanding performance, GT suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final, falling agonizingly short on the final ball against the Chennai Super Kings.
Shubman Gill’s excellent form provides a significant lift for the Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill delivered an impressive unbeaten innings of 89 runs off 59 balls in the Titans’ recent game against the Punjab Kings. Despite the hosts losing by three wickets, Gill’s impactful score marked his return to form.
With the absence of experienced players like Hardik Pandya and David Miller, GT’s batting lineup appears to lack the necessary experience, making Gill’s contributions even more crucial.
In the current season, the GT captain has accumulated 183 runs from five innings, boasting an average of 45.75.
It seems imperative for the Titans that Gill maintains his form throughout the tournament, possibly aiming for a season tally of at least 600 runs to advance further in the competition.
