IPL 2024: [WATCH]- Shubman Gill Argues With Umpires Over Third Umpire’s Decision Without UltraEdge Verification

In the ongoing match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill got into a heated dispute with the umpires during the opening over.

Umesh Yadav’s dismissal of Quinton de Kock on the fourth delivery provided GT with a strong start. Subsequently, a delivery from Yadav hit Devdutt Padikkal on the pad, leading GT fielders to appeal for an lbw decision.

The on-field umpire initially ruled in favour of the batsman, but Gujarat Titans (GT) believed that Padikkal was out and decided to challenge the decision. However, the third umpire also upheld the decision in favor of the batsman after reviewing the replays, which indicated that the ball had made contact with the bat before hitting Padikkal’s pad.

Nitin Menon, acting as the third umpire, made his decision without consulting UltraEdge upon noticing a significant deflection. However, Shubman Gill expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision not to use UltraEdge and made his displeasure known to the umpires.

Both he and Rahul Tewatia were observed disputing with the on-field umpires regarding the incident. Shubman Gill then intervened to manage the situation, instructing Tewatia to step away.

Subsequently, in the second over, UltraEdge was displayed on the large screen, revealing that the ball had indeed made contact with the bat before striking the pad.

‘Just A Poor…’: Shubman Gill’s straightforward response following the loss to LSG

Chasing 164 runs wasn’t anticipated to be overly challenging, but Lucknow Super Giants’ bowlers have consistently proven their capacity to defend totals, particularly when their batsmen score over 160.

Once more, LSG’s bowlers rescued the team, leading them to their third consecutive victory in IPL 2024 by dismissing Gujarat Titans for 130 while they pursued 164.

Gujarat captain Shubman Gill was straightforward in acknowledging the batsmen’s failure on a favorable batting surface, especially their inability to recover from the collapse during the middle overs.

“I think it was a good wicket to bat on. Just a poor batting performance by us. We got off to a decent start but we lost it in the middle overs and were never able to recover from that,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.

However, Gill praised his bowlers for their efforts in limiting LSG to a below-par total. He expressed regret over the absence of David Miller due to injury but emphasized that the target was still attainable.

“I think our bowlers were exceptional to restrict them to that score. We were looking at 170-180 but to restrict them, it was a tremendous effort. (On Miller) He is a player who can change the game at any time. We had a couple of injuries but irrespective, this total was gettable,” he added.
