During his tenure with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Neeraj Kumar, the former chief of the anti-corruption unit, commended Virat Kohli’s unwavering commitment to the sport, emphasizing that “Virat Kohli’s dedication to the game is truly unparalleled.” Kumar, who served in his role from 2015 to 2018, had regular interactions with the cricketers, where he found the majority of them to be amicable and approachable individuals.”

Among the plethora of players he encountered, Kumar specifically highlighted the exemplary character of two individuals, namely Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ajinkya Rahane, describing them as “outstanding people, thorough gentlemen.” Regarding Kohli, Kumar lauded his exceptional work ethic, stating, “In the realm of cricket, Virat Kohli’s diligence in his training regimen is unmatched. How he approaches his practice sessions sets a commendable example for his peers.

When probed about the prevalence of foul language among cricketers, Kumar acknowledged its existence but interpreted it as an inherent aspect of their communication style. Nevertheless, he underscored the significant level of respect displayed towards him by the players, drawing a notable juxtaposition with his experiences with certain members of the BCCI.

Professional career of Neeraj Kumar

Before his tenure with the BCCI, Neeraj Kumar, an esteemed Indian Police Service (IPS) officer with 37 years of dedicated service, had been instrumental in overseeing several high-profile cases, including the apprehension of S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, and Ankit Chavan in the spot-fixing scandal, as well as his involvement in the investigation of the infamous Hansie Cronje match-fixing controversy in 2000.

Neeraj Kumar, the former head of the anti-corruption unit within the BCCI, lauded Virat Kohli’s unparalleled dedication to cricket. He found most cricketers friendly, singling out Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ajinkya Rahane for their exceptional qualities. Kumar also noted that while some cricketers use foul language, they still treat him with respect, contrasting with his experiences with certain BCCI members.
