Shubman Gill Reveals Surprising Connection With Star Footballer While Playing FIFA

India’s T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill recently shared an interesting story about how he developed an interest in football. He revealed that it was Brazilian star Neymar who inspired him to start following the sport during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Gill mentioned that he would always support whichever team Neymar played for at the time.

He further added that he no longer plays the FIFA video game as frequently as he once did. Gill also spoke about some of the well-known English Premier League clubs he used to choose while playing the game.

“I started actually watching football because of Neymar. I used to love watching the 2014 World Cup. I started watching football properly then. And I used to love watching Neymar, so whatever team he was in, I used to pick that.”

“Ever since he’s gone to Saudi and now back to Brazil, I’ve kind of stopped playing FIFA. But whenever I do play, I remember I used to pick Liverpool in between because they had a very strong team. And then Man City,” he said. (via Apple Music‘s YouTube channel)

Shubman Gill Opens Up About Meeting Bruno Fernandes And Manchester United

Continuing the football conversation, Shubman Gill also recalled the Indian cricket team’s collaboration with Manchester United during their recent tour of England for a five-match Test series, with the fourth Test taking place in Manchester. Gill shared that the Indian players got the chance to visit Manchester United’s training facility at Old Trafford, where they interacted with the club’s players.

He described the experience as incredible, as both teams enjoyed a light-hearted session playing cricket and football together. Gill added that he personally met Manchester United stars Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes during the visit. He added:

“We went to see all the players when we were in Manchester. Yeah, it was like a team collaboration between the Indian cricket team and the Manchester United team. All the players were really amazing. I met Mason Mount, whom I have known from before when he was playing in Chelsea, and met Bruno Fernandes. Most of the players, they all were so nice and so kind. We spoke about so much,” he said.
