Former India cricketer and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has started his coaching journey after being appointed head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the SA20 2026 season. Previously an advisor and later team director for the Delhi Capitals, Ganguly takes over the role from Jonathan Trott.
“The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach,” Pretoria Capitals wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday, August 24.
This announcement came a day after Trott resigned from the position, which the franchise confirmed on its social media accounts.
“Jonathan Trott, we are forever grateful for your leadership and dedication to the team. Wishing you all the best in your next journey! Once a Capital, always a Capital!” the franchise posted on X.
Ganguly’s Leadership Journey
After retiring from all forms of cricket, including the IPL in 2012, Ganguly took on the role of President of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015 until October 2019. In March 2019, he became an advisor for the Delhi Capitals and was later appointed BCCI president in October 2019. He held the BCCI presidency until October 2022, after which he returned to the Delhi Capitals as team director in 2023.
Following an agreement between DC co-owners JSW and GMR Groups, Sourav Ganguly was appointed head of cricket at JSW Sports, where he was responsible for overseeing the women’s franchises and the Pretoria Capitals.
