Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has shared that they wanted to include MS Dhoni as Team India’s mentor for quite some time now and it is not an overnight decision. Notably, Dhoni has joined the team as a mentor for the T20 World Cup.
“Jay (Shah) and I were discussing for a long time about how to involve Dhoni. He has won 2 World Cups after all and has not left cricket completely. Hopefully, he will be a good addition. It can’t possibly be bad. Let’s see,” Sourav Ganguly said on Salaam Cricket.

When he was asked whether there will be ego clashes between MS Dhoni and Team India head coach Ravi Shastri as well as the captain Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly said:
“Ravi Shastri is the head coach, Virat is the captain and MS will just help them. MS is a mature person, he will know what to say when. I am sure all this was discussed and so hope for the best. He is just for this trip. They are all such big players, I just don’t see any issues.”

However, Team India will start their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland and another team of the Group 2 of the Super 12 stage as well.
Sourav Ganguly, however, said that there is always pressure on Team India whenever they take the field, but they can’t win all the time too.
“You can’t win everything always. Expectations are always very high on India, that they simply have to win but that doesn’t always happen. Let’s hope it does this time,” concluded Sourav Ganguly.
