The English Cricket Board has decided to rest most of the players from WC squad for its one-off test against Ireland next week. The game will be played at Lord”s from July 24th and a lot of limited-overs specialists have benefits granted a rest ahead of the Ashes. What”s fascinating here is the inclusion of Jason Roy, one of the most destructive openers in the longest format of the game.
Roy amassed over 443 runs in the World tournament. His highest score of 153 against Bangladesh was termed to be one of the best innings in this World Cup above the order. As per reports, he is expected to share the opening formalities alongside Rory Burns, who created winders for Surrey in the county arena.
James Anderson who succumbed to a calf injury earlier this month has been named in the side. The team management would expect him to give his best as will be the trump card for the Ashes. Other newcomers include all-rounder Lewis Gregory, the Somerset Fast Bowler who received his maiden international call-up. Olly Stone who represented the limited-overs side against Srilanka last year also received his maiden test call-up.
This will be the third test for the Irish side since their test status. They played previously against Pakistan and Afghanistan but ended up on the long side. Will they give a tough fight to England in their own backyard?
