World Cup Winning Coach Trevor Bayliss Appointed As SRH Head Coach

2016 IPL champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have appointed England’s World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss as their new head coach.

Bayliss had earlier coached Kolkata Knight Riders from 2012 to 2015, a period during which the franchise won its only two IPL championships to date (in 2012 and 2014) under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

He was also the head coach of the Sri Lankan team which finished runners-up at the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the Sydney Sixers team which won the 2011-12 edition of the Big Bash League.

The franchise released an official statement on Thursday afternoon which read, ‘’After very careful consideration, the Sunrisers franchise has decided to take a different direction with the Head Coaching role and will be parting ways with the services of Tom Moody.

Trevor Bayliss, England”s 2019 World Cup-winning coach, has been appointed Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Trevor has already won 2 IPL trophies with KKR and has also won the Big Bash League and Champions League T20 with Sydney Sixers. He is a proven winner and we feel that his successful track record will be ideal in taking Sunrisers Hyderabad forward.’’

In 2015, he was roped in by the ECB to coach the men’s senior time and has successfully managed the team over the past four years, helping it become the number one-ranked ODI team in the world and win its maiden ICC Cricket World Cup title.

His contract with the ECB will expire after the forthcoming Ashes in England, and he had earlier made it clear that he would not look for a renegotiation.

This brings an end to Tom Moody’s tenure as SRH’s head coach, a role he had been assuming since the franchise’s inception in 2013. During this seven-year-stint, he helped the team reach the playoffs five times and win the title in 2016 under David Warner’s captaincy.

The franchise has also expressed its gratitude to the former Australian all-rounder for his services in the press release: ‘’We would like to thank Tom Moody who has made an enormous impact with the franchise helping us achieve 5 playoff appearances over the past 7 years, including a much-treasured championship in 2016.

We would also like to thank him for his work ethic and leadership over our journey and wish him all the success moving forward.’’

According to a trusted source in the SRH set-up, Muttiah Muralitharan and VVS Laxman will continue in their respective roles as bowling coach and mentor.
