Lockie Ferguson out for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With the tournament starting tomorrow, New Zealand has suffered a heavy injury setback as fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out for the competition. Ferguson incurred a right-foot injury during a warm-up match in Karachi on Sunday and, after assessments were conducted, it was found that he would not be available for the event.
For the Black Caps, this is an even more significant blow, as they had hoped that the speeding and experienced Ferguson would come into play at the event. The absence of Ferguson will be felt even more for batting-friendly conditions in a Champions Trophy. A replacement has been announced by the selectors, but it will be hard to find someone to replace the expertise and firepower that Ferguson brings.
Now New Zealand, led by all-rounder Mitchell Santner, will have to regroup and reassess strategies without Ferguson in the squad. The new member of the Black Caps’ squad will hopefully help New Zealand recover from the loss to take the tournament by storm. With the Champions Trophy kicking off, it is to be hoped that New Zealand has gotten over this injury setback and put its sights on the obstacles ahead.
Kyle Jamieson Set to Replace Injured Lockie Ferguson

Kyle Jamieson has been nominated as a replacement in New Zealand’s squad for the Champions Trophy after Lockie Ferguson was ruled out through injury. Jamieson will travel to Pakistan straight away to join the team. On a personal level, it arrives at a perfectly timed moment for Jamieson, who has been trying to get back to full fitness following an injury.
Jamieson boasts a fine international record for New Zealand, having played 45 internationals. He was vital in New Zealand’s win in the ICC World Test Championship 2021 Final against India, which saw him take Player of the Match honors. He last played an ODI in September 2023, but Jamieson has been doing everything possible to pick up momentum in domestic cricket.
After recovering from injury, Jamieson picked up domestic cricket action in December with Canterbury Kings and proved instrumental in his team’s Super Smash campaign. The player also featured in recently concluded Ford Trophy matches for Canterbury, confirming that he is ready for international action.
