Steve Smith, the captain of Australia, didn’t say much about India taking the edge over playing in Dubai for the Champions Trophy after their four-wicket defeat in the semifinal. The Indians have had security problems in Pakistan and thus are playing all their ODI matches in Dubai. This is the fourth win of India playing at this ground that has made all the Indian matches for this particular tournament since they have refused to travel to Pakistan.

The semifinal victory sets up India for a rematch with either South Africa or New Zealand, who will have to head to Dubai after the second semifinal in Lahore. He maintained that he was leaving the issue of advantage aside and concentrating on the game. This will now lead to a match with India based on his knowledge of the surface and the conditions they have to contend with, as he attempts to extend the winning streak.

“The surface kind of suits their style”- Steve Smith

Steve Smith, the captain of Australia, refrained from making any remarks regarding India’s Champions Trophy lead in Dubai after the team lost by four wickets in the semifinal on Tuesday.

“India obviously played some really good cricket here, The surface kind of suits their style with the spinners that they’ve got and the seamers that they have at their disposal for a wicket like that. They played well, they outplayed us and they deserve the victory.” Smith told the post-match press conference.

“They’re going to be better for the exposure to a big event and playing against world-class players like the ones we came up against today and throughout the tournament,” he added.

Steve Smith declared his retirement from one-day international cricket following Australia’s Champions Trophy elimination against India on Tuesday night. The Australian skipper said to his players following their defeat by India in the Dubai semi-final.
