Sudurpashchim Royals have not only won the match but have also kept their unbeaten run six matches long with this impressive victory of 49 runs over the Chitwan Rhinos, thus solidifying their position as one of the tournament’s strong contenders and displaying their excellence consistently throughout the league stage.
The team of Chitwan Rhinos, whose chasing strategy was unsuccessful, could not stand the bowling attack of Sudurpashchim. The Rhinos, who were set a target of 170 runs, failed to a large extent and surrendered their wickets for only 120 runs in 17.1 overs. The considerable 49-run gap in the score at the end of the match draws attention to the difference in the level of skills of the two teams and strengthens the argument that Sudurpashchim is indeed one of the contestants for the championship as the tournament moves on.
Chitwan Rhinos were bowled out for 120
Sudurpashchim Royals continued their unbeatable streak in the Nepal Premier League by overpowering Chitwan Rhinos with a hefty 49-run victory. Sudurpashchim, after losing the toss and being asked to bat, set a challenging target of 169 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs.
The opener Chris Lynn was the one who made the biggest impact with his match-winning innings of 75 runs off 56 balls, while captain Dipendra Singh Airee was also able to score 24 runs. Arif Sheikh (24) and Vinod Bhandari (21) were also able to contribute significantly towards making a huge score.
The bowling department of Chitwan succeeded in taking four wickets but still allowed a huge score to be posted. Saif Zaib was the leading wicket-taker for them with two dismissals, and Ranjit Kumar and George Scrimshaw took one wicket apiece. Nevertheless, the batting strength of Sudurpashchim ensured that they were able to put enough runs on the board to keep their opponents under pressure.
Chasing the target of 170 runs, Chitwan Rhinos faced a tough time against the disciplined bowling of Sudurpashchim and were all out for just 120 in 17.1 overs. The short resistance came from Ravi Bopara (29) and Dev Khanal (28), while there were also modest contributions from Arjun Saud (16) and Kushal Malla (15). The other batsmen could not stay at the crease and hence the team could not make up for the runs they needed.
Puneet Mehra was the main performer with a superb spell of 3 wickets for 14 runs in 2.1 overs. Skipper Airee, Hikmat Mahara, Avinash Bohara and Ishan Pandey each took one wicket and together they made a good combination for restricting Chitwan to a meager score. This impressive win has put Sudurpashchim on the top as they have won six matches in a row.
