Sunil Gavaskar has praised the inexperienced Indian bowling line-up after their gritty performance against Australia at The Gabba. Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur and Natarajan picked three wickets each as India bowled out Australia for 369 in the first innings. All the three bowlers played their first Test match and gave a match-defining performance in their very first outing. Mohammed Siraj picked one wicket in the first innings.
Talking to Sony Sports Network, Sunil Gavaskar said that the inexperienced Indian bowlers have done very well in the absence of the senior bowlers. All the premier Indian bowlers were ruled out of the fourth Test after coping up with respective injuries.
“Our young bowlers gave a very good performance. Yes, there was a partnership between Paine and Green. Our bowlers had got off to a slightly slow start today; Natarajan was hit for two fours in his first over,” Gavaskar said during a discussion on the Sony Sports Network.
“But after that, the way they bowled, it was praiseworthy, and I enjoyed seeing that. These players, who had just the eleven or thirteen wickets before the game started, bowled very well; it seemed like Australia will score 400-450 runs at one point,” he added.

It was Sharul Thakur who broke the partnership between Tim Paine and Cameron Green on day 2 of The Gabba Test. Washinton Sundar then broke through Green. The last three batsmen scored 55 runs before Natarajan cleaned up Josh Hazelwood to end the innings.
Sunil Gavaskar Praises India’s Test Debutants
Sunil Gavaskar praised both the Test debutants Washington Sundar and Natarajan who made their debut together in the same match.
“When a new player comes and performs well, then your hopes are raised that we have got good players for the future in case there is any injury. Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja, who are the lynchpins of our bowling attack, they were not playing, still our young bowlers gave a very good performance, and seeing that, it feels very good,” said Gavaskar praising the Indian bowlers.
