The Indian Cricket Team levelled the 2-match Test series with a dominating 7-wicket win in the 2nd Test match at Newlands, Cape Town on 4th January 2023. He had a disappointing outing during 4 innings that he played during the Test series.

Shreyas Iyer’s top score of 31 came during the first innings of the first test match at Centurion. After that, he was dismissed cheaply in 2nd inning. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed without opening his account in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test match at Cape Town. He played the winning shot helping Team India a 7-wicket win and registering the first-ever Test victory in Cape Town.

Virat Kohli scored 172 runs in 4 innings while KL Rahul made 113 during the Test series. Virat Kohli scored valuable contributions during both innings of the first Test match at Centurion. He looked impressive in the first innings of 2nd test match at Cape Town. With the pitch helpful for pace bowlers, Kohli made 46 and helped India to take the lead.

“Shreyas Iyer is not the only player who failed because it’s not easy for any batter on these pitches. If you see, barring Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, no one else scored too many runs. You cannot point fingers at just one player. So I feel the selection committee will also think that he should probably be given more chances,” he said.

The Indian batters struggled in the 2-match Test series. KL Rahul scored well complied century in the first innings of the first Test match at Centurion. He was dismissed cheaply in the 2nd innings of the first test match as the Indian team lost the match by an innings and 32 runs.

Shreyas Iyer’s record in Test matches

Shreyas Iyer made his Test debut on 25th November 2021. He played a total of 12 Test matches so far (20 innings) and scored 707 runs with the best score of 105 in his debut match against New Zealand at Kanpur.

He has struggled outside the subcontinent with only 34 runs in the two innings on England soil before a disappointing outing in the series against South Africa. He missed the 2023 World Test Championship finals due to an injury and also missed the 2023 IPL due to that injury.
