On April 2, nine years back India scripted history when they defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to lift the ICC World Cup after 28 long years. This day will forever be etched the memory of the Indian cricket lovers.

The then skipper MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir shared a match-winning stand to defy the odds to chase down the mammoth total. Dhoni played the masterstroke by promoting him ahead of the man of the series Yuvraj Singh to tackle Muttiah Muralitharan, who was making the ball talk.

Although Gambhir missed his century by three runs but played a crucial knock alongside MS Dhoni, who was unbeaten on 91 runs to take his side through. While the fans generally talk about the batsmen, the bowlers also made some significant contributions throughout the tournament.

Zaheer Khan completed the tournament as the join-highest wicket-taker alongside Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi at 21 wickets. Munaf Patel and Harbhajan Singh also chipped in with useful contributions throughout the tournament along with Yuvraj Singh – who won the player of the tournament.

Suresh Raina, who also played a good hand in the quarterfinals and semifinals, recently spoke highly about the bowling unit. the veteran cricketer singled out one particular name in the bowling department whom he even called the Sachin of the Indian team when it comes to bowling.

“Whatever decision we were taking, it was all going in our favour. Zaheer bhai led the bowling attack. Everyone was talking about our strong batting line up but I would say he was the Sachin Tendulkar of the bowling department, getting us the breakthrough every time. Then the biggest contribution came from Yuvraj, who took wickets and finished games,” said Raina to PTI.

In conclusion, Suresh Raina also spoke about the environment in the team and admitted that there was only one dream of winning the World Cup among the players throughout the competition.
