Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq showered praise on Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has a prolific record in the shortest format. Heading into the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, the stylish right-handed batter is in red-hot form, slamming a fifty during India’s first warm-up match against Australia, earlier this week.

In 34 T20I matches, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 1045 runs at an average of 38.7, and a strike rate of 176.82. His run tally includes nine fifties and a century. The 32-year-old’s inclusion in the Indian team has boosted the team’s batting strength, feels Misbah-ul-Haq.

The former Pakistan skipper expressed that Suryakumar Yadav has all types of shots, and has provided confidence to an already heavy Indian top order. Misbah-ul-Haq said, as quoted by A-Sports,

“Suryakumar Yadav ke aa jaane se mujhe lagta hai unki batting strength badhi hai. (After Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion, India’s batting strength has increased). The range he has and the kind of shots he plays against any bowler – he had all types of shots – and because of this, the top order’s role has also changed. Then there is Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik who play the finisher’s role.”

After last year’s World Cup, India has decided to change their approach: Misbah-ul-Haq

Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq further highlighted that Team India has changed its approach in T20Is, after the 2021 T20 World Cup. India suffered a group stages exit from the tournament. Since then the team has embraced a more attacking approach in the format.

“Overall, you can see that after last year’s World Cup they have decided to change their approach. Earlier they had a strategy like the current Pakistan team. But now they have taken an England-like policy – which is to just go after the bowling. They score the maximum runs in the Powerplay and according to that, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have adapted. Even Virat Kohli, who used to take time earlier, comes and starts attacking,” said Misbah-ul-Haq.

Team India will kick off their 2022 ICC T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on Sunday, October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
