Suryakumar Yadav Or Shreyas Iyer? Deep Dasgupta Reveals His Pick For The No.4 Slot

Team India will face the problem of plenty when they lock horns with England in the first T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahead of the start, former cricketer, Deep Dasgupta has revealed his choice between Shreyas Iyer and Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav, who has earned his maiden call-up, for the No.4 slot for the first tie of the series.

Suryakumar comes into the team on the back of consistent scores for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and stateside Mumbai. He was expected to make it to the squad that toured Australia after a stellar IPL 2020 in the UAE but surprisingly he was left out of the team which rang a few eyeballs. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer had blown hot and cold in the Australia series.

The management will face the problem of many and face the heat when they sit to pick today’s playing XI. Speaking on the same lines, Deep Dasgupta believes Suryakumar Yadav will be better suited at No.4 than Shreyas Iyer, who has been batting in the middle order for India in the last few limited-overs series.

“I would play Suryakumar Yadav before Shreyas Iyer. It’s just that at No. 4 in T20 cricket I think Suryakumar Yadav is better suited at this point in time,” Dasgupta told Sports Today.

Washington Sundar to retain his berth – Deep Dasgupta

Adding further, Deep Dasgupta backed young all-rounder Washington Sundar to retain his spot in the playing XI. Indian skipper Virat Kohli also backed the cricketer from Tamil Nadu saying that he has done extensively well for the Men in Blues. The former wicket-keeper batsman said that India might be tempted to play three spinners if Hardik Pandya is not fit to bowl.

“India might go with Washington Sundar and 2 spinners because if Hardik is bowling then you can play 3 spinners. Washington can bowl in the first 6 overs so you don’t need 3 seamers.

“They can still go with 3 spinners but I doubt they will. India might go with 2 spinners as of now because Hardik is not bowling,” Dasgupta said.
