Papua New Guniea qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024

Papua New Guinea becomes the third side after Ireland and Scotland for the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America. PNG qualified for the prestigious tournament from the East Asia Pacific qualifying round played in Papua New Guinea from 22nd-29th July 2023.

PNG thrashed the Philippines by 100 runs to guarantee a first-place finish. Thanks to brilliant half-centuries by Tony Ura, Asad Vala, and Charles Amini, PNG posted a mammoth total of 229 for 6. Kabua Morea took 2 wickets giving away 32 runs while John Kirko and Hiri Hiri grabbed 1 wicket each. 3 Batters were involved in a run-out. With this win, Papua New Guinea occupies the top spot in the East Asia Pacific qualifying tournament.

Papua New Guinea missed the bus during the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. They made it into the qualifying round of the 2021 edition where they played Scotland, Oman, and Bangladesh. PNG could not win any matches and would be giving a tough fight to teams that will take part in the first round.

Ireland and Scotland made it from the Europe qualifiers while PNG made it from the East Asia Pacific region. America qualifiers will take place from 30th September to 7th October 2023 in Bermuda. Only one spot would make it into a prestigious tournament.

ICC T20 World Cup Trophy

The Asia Qualifiers would take place from 30th October to 9th November 2023 in Nepal. Two teams will qualify from the Asia region. From the Africa qualifying tournament, 2 teams would make it into that would take place from 20th November to 1st December 2023 in Namibia.

15 Teams qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024

United States of America and West Indies qualified directly being the host. Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka qualified due to being in the top 8 during the 2022 T20 World Cup played in Australia.

Afghanistan and Bangladesh progressed due to rankings on 14th November 2022. The teams will be divided into four groups of five each for the first round. The top two teams from each group qualify for the Super 8 Stage.
