T20 World Cup 2026: Assistant Coach Gives Key Fitness Update On Jasprit Bumrah And Abhishek Sharma

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate shared an update on Jasprit Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma’s fitness before India’s second T20 World Cup match against Namibia on February 12. Bumrah missed India’s first game against the USA because he was unwell. Abhishek, on the other hand, also didn’t feel well during the match.

He opened the batting but was out on the very first ball, scoring a golden duck. He also spent most of the second innings off the field in India’s 29-run victory. When asked about the latest on both players, Ten Doeschate gave an update (as quoted by Sahil Malhotra on X, via TOI).

“Bumrah hasn’t bowled for 10 days, will bowl today. Abhishek still has an upset stomach.”

The Indian assistant coach also said that all-rounder Washington Sundar has joined the team and will be bowling in the practice session.

“Washington Sundar has joined the team, will bowl today,” said Ten Doeschate.

Sundar got injured during the ODI series against New Zealand last month, which is why he missed the T20I series that followed and also sat out India’s opening match of the T20 World Cup.

“Found Out Late Yesterday”: Ten Doeschate on Pakistan’s Boycott U-Turn

Ryan ten Doeschate said that he and the Indian team only found out recently that Pakistan had changed their decision and would play the match against India in Colombo on February 15. Pakistan had earlier said they might boycott the game following instructions from their government just days before the T20 World Cup began.

But after about ten days of uncertainty, the match will now go ahead as planned. This decision was made after a positive meeting between the ICC, BCB, and PCB on Tuesday.

“It’s great the game is back on, no big change for us. We got to know late yesterday,” said Ten Doeschate (via the aforementioned source).
