The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has had a major jolt on various cricket leagues across the globe. The recent addition to the list the fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), scheduled to commence from June 10. The organisers revealed the news on Monday night.
Meanwhile, TNPL found themselves in troubled waters with a few cricketers and coach coming under the scanner of BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit for alleged match-fixing. However, TNCA concluded that no actionable incidents had been noticed regarding allegations of match-fixing that surfaced during the last edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League.

The organisers were keen to come back with a bang on the season. But as things look, the future of the franchise-based league which gained a lot of popularity in recent years looks in jeopardy. TNCA honorary secretary R S Ramasaamy in a release stated that they have decided to postpone the tournament as of now.
“The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has decided to postpone the 5th edition of TNPL tournament which was to start from June 10,” the press release stated.

Meanwhile, the release didn’t have any information on the revised schedule and it is likely to come out in the next few days. The forthcoming edition of TNPL was set to be an eight-team affair with the final scheduled for July 12.
The COVID-19 had already had a toll on the Olympic and Indian Premier League. BCCI has postponed IPL 2020, scheduled to start from March 29 for an indefinite period. Moreover, the International Cricket Council is also planning to postpone the upcoming the ICC T20 World Cup slated to take place in Australia to 2022.
