Team India Head Coach Gautam Gambhir Receives A Threat Email
Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, a former cricketer for India and present head coach, allegedly received a death threat by email with the subject line “ISIS” (Islamic State). The email read a chilling message: “I kill you.” Gambhir complained to Rajendra Nagar police station, and an investigation has now been initiated. The matter has yet to be formally registered as a case, with the cyber cell now tracing the origin of the email and sender.

Delhi Police have declared that they are looking into the alleged threat mail received by Gambhir. As he continues to be a Delhi Police protectee, they are taking the threat seriously and working to ensure his safety.

“We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The same is being investigated. He is already a Delhi Police protectee, and we do not comment on specific security arrangements,” Delhi Police said in a statement.

Death Threat to Gautam Gambhir

The threat came just two days after a terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people dead. Members of the Resistance Front, a splinter faction of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), carried out that attack. Gambhir denounced the assault on social media with, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”

Gambhir had—if one would indulge in this description-thrice made threats by ISIS Kashmir in 2021. His ever-resolute view against terrorism may also have been the reason behind the latest threat. Nevertheless, with the recent victory of the Champions Trophy 2025, Gambhir has continued his success, noted by a few failures in his initial stint as head coach, which includes a loss-a simple 0-3 whitewash at home-in the Test series against New Zealand and a loss-1-3 back again-in the series against Australia.

Preliminary investigations into the threat are underway as the authorities are working to ensure Gambhir’s security and to ascertain the person behind the email threat.
