Team India registered the biggest win over Sri Lanka in the 3rd-day international match played at Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on 15 January 2023.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill began the innings cautiously before both batters put enough pressure on the Lankan bowling especially 23 runs off Lahiru Kumara’s over. Rohit and Gill kept the momentum going as they ended the first 10 overs at 75 without losing any wickets.
Chamika Karaunate got the breakthrough dismissing Rohit Sharma caught by Fernando. Rohit and Shubman added 95 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total. Virat Kohli came to the crease with positive intent keeping the pressure on Lankan bowling. Shubman Gill looked impressive reaching a half-century off 52 balls. Kohli continued his superb form with a well-made half-century off 48 balls to keep the momentum going for India.
Gill and Kohli scored quickly, not allowing the Lankan bowlers to settle. Gill completed his 2nd ODI century off 89 balls. Rajitha got rid of Gill with a lovely delivery that was kept low. Gill and Kohli added 131 runs for the 2nd wicket. Shreyas Iyer showed intent right from the word go while Kohli completed his 46th ODI century off 85 balls.

It was a sensational knock by Kohli kept hitting sixes at ease keeping the momentum going for Team India. Despite losing the wickets of Shreyas, KL Rahul, and Surya Kumar Yadav, the Indian team posted a massive total of 390 for 5. Kohli completed 150 off 106 balls. He remained not out on 166 off 110 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes.
It was a remarkable bowling effort by the Indian team who kept picking wickets at regular intervals right from the word go. Mohammed Siraj broke the backbone of the Sri Lankan team as he took Avishka Fernando, Nuwiandu Fernando, and Kusal Mendis. Dunith Wellage came as a concussion substitute. India skittled out Sri Lanka for 73 to win the match by 317 runs.
It was a remarkable performance by Team India in the 3rd ODI. The Indian team showed their domination in the ODI series winning the first ODI by 67 runs, 2nd ODI by 5 wickets, and the final ODI by 317 runs. India’s 317 runs win was the highest win margin by any team in ODI cricket. It has been a remarkable bowling effort by Team India in this series and hopes to continue their performance in the ODI series against New Zealand.
