Indian cricket team extend their dominance as they retain the top spot in the recently released ICC Test rankings. India is at the top with 125 points ahead of Southafrica. The Proteas who had a wonderful outing against the Aussies enjoy their second spot with 112 points.
It is to be noted that India has won all the test series at home in the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 season. India lost only one series under the full-time captaincy of Virat Kohli, the recent South African tour.
Trans Tasmanian countries Australia and New Zealand are placed at the third and fourth position while the English grab the fifth spot. England is running through a rough patch right now as they are winless in the Ashes as well as the NZ series.
Windies attained a new low in their rankings as they slumped to a 9th position below Bangladesh. Windies who were in a pathetic situation of playing the qualifiers held their nerve and will play the ICC World cup 2019.
The rankings consisted of ten countries and will see twelve from the month of June. Ireland and Afghanistan have been granted the full member status and they will be joining the list soon. ICC had been really phenomenal in promoting test cricket by introducing the D/N format of the game. This format has been successful in this era where T20 has been trying to grab maximum public attention.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has retained the second spot in the batsman rankings while Spin heads Jadeja and Ashwin are comfortably placed at fourth and fifth spots in the bowler rankings.
