Team India is in England for a five-match Test series against the hosts. They are currently on a break after the conclusion of the ICC World Test Championship.  Some players toured the Covid free zones in the UK with their families.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India was concerned due to the rise in Covid cases in the UK. Fortunately, the UK’s National Health Service arranged a second dose of the Covid vaccine for the Indian team. The players took their second dose of vaccine on July 7 and July 9, reports Cricbuzz.

They will now undergo few tests ahead of the Test series. Virat Kohli & Co. were administered the first dose before leaving for the UK.

The Indian players will assemble in Durham by July 14 and join the team bio-bubble. After India’s poor outing in the ICC World Test Championship final, the BCCI requested two tour matches to the ECB.

The first of the two matches will be a four-day tour game in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, followed by a 3 day game against County Select XI. The Indian team was originally scheduled to play two warm-up matches against India A, but due to COVID concerns, India A tour was canceled.

Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has already begun his preparations for the series. The off-spinner is playing for Sussex in county cricket. He replaced the injured Kyle Jamieson, for the match against Somerset at the Oval.

Ashwin became the first spinner in 11 years to bowl the first over in a County Championship match. He dismissed Somerset’s Tom Lammonby for 42. Ashwin has previously represented Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire in the county championship.

The five-match Test series between India and England kickstart from August 4 in Nottingham.
