Team India Travel To Leeds By Train For IND Vs ENG Test Series Opener At Headingley

Team India appeared to be in a cheerful mood as the squad traveled from London to Leeds ahead of the first match of the five-Test series against England. The team made their way from the UK’s capital to Leeds, where the iconic Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Yorkshire will host the series opener between the historic rivals.

“Ball theek karo halka sa, ek haath se. Aa gaya shot aa gaya” (Fix your hair a little with one hand. Yes, we got the shot), someone quipped behind the camera to all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Wicketkeeper-batter, Dhruv Jurel, shared a memory from his childhood, recalling a train trip. “When I was very young, my father was posted in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. There were a lot of mountains and beautiful, beautiful scenes during the journey.”

”I used to get very excited. He always used to take the window seat so that I could sit and enjoy the scenery,” reminisced Jurel. Sai Sudharsan, Sundar’s travel companion, recounted his past reliance on trains for attending cricket camps during his youth. We had U-12 and U-14 camps in Chepauk,” he said.

India will kick off their five-match Test series against England on June 20 at Headingley, followed by the second Test at Edgbaston. The iconic Lord’s will host the third Test, after which the teams will clash at Old Trafford for the fourth match. The series will conclude with the final Test at the Kennington Oval.

All eyes will be on newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill, who is expected to lead from the front with the bat as he takes over from former Test captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom recently retired from the format.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain, joining the leadership group for the much-anticipated series. Meanwhile, opener Sai Sudharsan and pacer Arshdeep Singh have earned their maiden Test call-ups, and experienced batter Karun Nair returns to the squad after a long absence.
