The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken the initiative to release the media rights tender for upcoming bilateral cricket games involving India. They have extended a cordial invitation to applicants, urging them to participate in the tender process and bid for the media rights, encompassing both domestic and international matches.
To provide complete transparency and clarity, the BCCI has clarified that the detailed terms and conditions governing the tender will be available in the form of an Invitation to Tender (ITT).
Interested parties can obtain the ITT by paying a non-refundable fee of INR 15 lakh, and the opportunity to purchase it will be open until August 25.
BCCI invited bids for media rights tender
In an official press release, the BCCI emphasized the importance of the ITT purchase for those intending to submit bids for India’s bilateral matches’ media rights. The ITT contains vital information, outlining essential aspects such as eligibility criteria, bid submission guidelines, and the rights and obligations of successful bidders.
The board made it explicit that merely purchasing the ITT does not grant the right to bid. Eligibility is subject to meeting the criteria set forth in the ITT and complying with the terms and conditions specified therein. The BCCI also asserted its authority to modify or cancel the bidding process at any stage without being obliged to provide reasons for such actions.
The previous media rights deal, which concluded in March 2023, saw Disney Star as the rights holder, securing the media rights at an impressive sum of INR 6138.10 Crore, equivalent to INR 61 Crore per international game across different formats.
Anticipations suggest that the forthcoming tender’s rights value is likely to exceed the amount from the previous deal. With the intention of providing ample time for the successful bidder to prepare, the BCCI aims to finalize the tender deal during the latter stages of August, ensuring smooth preparations for India’s first bilateral series in the cycle.
