The IPL Will Feature A Mega Auction In 2025, Confirms Arun Dhumal

Contrary to reports suggesting the discontinuation of mega auctions in the IPL after Hardik Pandya’s transfer, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal clarified that a mega auction is scheduled before IPL 2025. He emphasized the additional earning potential for players in auctions compared to transfers, common in football.

Dhumal highlighted the benefit to young cricketers, particularly U19 players, who might lack negotiation skills, citing the positive impact of auctions on Afghan players. The IPL is committed to retaining auctions, dispelling any plans for their removal.

“We will have the mega auction for sure, where you get to choose three-four players and then you have a new team. That makes it more interesting and that format will continue.”

“Hopefully, the mega auction will be as big and as good as we have had earlier given newer talents coming in not from India and other countries. Teams like Afghanistan have also benefitted as they could showcase their talent,” Dhumal said while talking to Sportstar.

Every player must prioritize representing their country above all else: Arun Dhumal

Ishan Kishan’s absence from the entire Ranji Trophy and Shreyas Iyer opting out of Mumbai’s Quarterfinal match sparked discussions. Consequently, the BCCI excluded them from the annual central contract.

Reports suggest that Kishan focused on IPL preparations in Baroda, prioritizing it over red-ball cricket. Meanwhile, Iyer, after missing a Ranji fixture due to back pain, attended the KKR camp.

Agarkar and Jay Shah were angered by these incidents. Dhumal emphasized that representing the country should be the foremost commitment for every cricketer, and genuine respect is earned through national participation.

“The IPL is an integral part of the BCCI and the BCCI is supreme. Playing for the country has to be the top priority for every player and we are very clear about that. Howsoever, money you may make, how glamourous you may become as a part of a franchise, real respect comes to you when you play for the country,” Dhumal said.
