“They are very much fit and available for the Australia ODIs” – BCCI Official On Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

The anticipation around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s early return to competitive cricket has been met with uncertainty. Reports indicate that the two senior Indian batters are unlikely to participate in the upcoming India A versus Australia A ODI series.

While fans had hoped to see them back in action before the much-anticipated tour of Australia, a senior BCCI official has clarified that no final decision has been taken.

He further highlighted that there will be no compulsion on either player to join the India A side. Their selection, if at all, will depend on whether they feel the need to gain match practice ahead of the tour.

The official was quoted saying, “It’s highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. No call has been taken, and it will not be forced upon them.” This statement makes it clear that the two stalwarts have been given the flexibility to manage their workload and readiness as they see fit.

Australia A Series Schedule

The India A versus Australia A series is slated to take place later this month, with three matches scheduled on September 30, October 3, and October 5. These fixtures were being considered as an opportunity for senior players like Kohli and Rohit to shake off any rust before India’s high-profile assignments in Australia.

However, the current outlook suggests that both may sit out, unless they personally request to feature in one or two games for practice.

For now, the management is leaving the decision entirely in the hands of the players, indicating trust in their preparation methods. The selectors and coaching staff are also mindful of balancing workload and avoiding unnecessary fatigue, especially for players with years of international experience.

Focus on Bigger Assignments

With the Australia tour looming, India’s cricket management appears focused on ensuring that its senior stars remain in peak physical and mental condition. Kohli and Rohit, both seasoned campaigners with a deep understanding of their game, might prefer to prepare through training and selective match involvement rather than committing to every fixture.

Their absence from the India A series could also create more opportunities for younger talents to showcase their abilities against a strong Australian side.

While fans may be disappointed by the uncertainty, the larger picture remains centered around maintaining the duo’s readiness for critical international challenges. Ultimately, whether they step onto the field for India A or not, the priority remains their contribution in India’s bigger battles ahead.
