Controversies and IPL are the two things that go hand in hand. Whether it be match fixing or bad umpiring, there is some controversy regarding IPL every other week.

One of the events of such controversy was seen yesterday when a 50-50 call wasn’t given in favour of the batsman. Delhi needed an improbable 36 in 6 balls. Rovman Powell hit 3 consecutive sixes of the first three balls to put the pressure on Obed Mcoy, the Rajasthan bowler.

The third six was the controversial call from the umpire as it should have been a no-ball according to the DC camp. Pant and coaching staff got furious with this decision and Delhi coaching staff came onto the field to talk to the umpire. In the end, the decision stood and Rajasthan won the game by 15 runs.

Rishabh Pant in his post match presentation made sure he spoke about this controversial call. He said: “Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone on the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball.”

Pant further spoke about Pravin Amre going on the field. “Obviously, it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right, it happened in the heat of the moment. It was the fault of both sides and it is disappointing as we have seen some good umpiring in the tournament. It is disappointing to go so close especially when the other team has scored 200+.” said Pant.

This loss means that Delhi are still at the 6th place with six points with a lot of work still to be done if they need to make sure that they qualify for the playoffs again this year.

Pant, Thakur, Amre charged for breaching code of conduct

The IPL has informed the Delhi Capitals team about their breach of code of conduct. Because of this incident, Rishabh Pant has been charged 100% of his match fees, Shardul Thakur has been fined 50% of his match fees and Pravin Amre, the assistant coach has been fined 100% of his match fees and has been banned for one game as well.
