Emerging Indian batsman Tilak Varma extended his impressive beginning in international cricket, remaining undefeated with a score of 49 from 37 deliveries during the third T20I against West Indies in Guyana on Tuesday.
India faced a challenging start while chasing 160, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Shubman Gill (6) early. Yet, Tilak Varma partnered with Suryakumar Yadav (83 off 44) for an 87-run stand, guiding the Men in Blue to a crucial seven-wicket victory in the pivotal match.
Tilak Varma’s latest knock included four fours and a six, making him the second Indian after Suryakumar Yadav to achieve 30-plus scores in his first three T20I innings. He achieved 39 runs on his debut and followed up with 51 in the second T20I in Guyana.
Suryakumar began his T20I journey with innings of 57, 32, and 50. He earned the Player of the Match title for his dynamic performance in the third T20I. This marked his 12th Man of the Match recognition, achieved over 51 T20Is.
In the category of Indian male players with the highest number of Player of the Match awards in T20Is, Suryakumar has now risen to a tied second position alongside Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, with 15 awards, leads the list.
During his impressive innings, the right-handed batter also crossed 100 sixes in T20Is. He shares the second spot on the list of quickest players to achieve this feat, alongside Chris Gayle, both taking 49 innings. Evin Lewis leads with 48 innings.
Additionally, Suryakumar’s 83 off 44 balls is the second-highest T20I score at Providence in Guyana, with the top score being Mahela Jayawardene’s 100 off 64 balls against Zimbabwe in 2010.
