TNPL 2023: [Watch] Ravichandran Ashwin Quarrels With Umpire and Takes Unique DRS

Ravi Ashwin, an off-spinner for India, has a keen mind and a keen sense of game reading. He is currently occupied with leading the Dindigul Dragons team in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where he participated in the game against Ba11sy Trichy on Wednesday, June 14.

Two DRS reviews off the same ball during play made for an interesting incident, and Ashwin was, as to be expected, at the center of it all.

When the incident occurred, Ashwin was in the third over of his spell and it was the thirteenth over of the innings. After missing a wild swing, the umpire declared opposition batter R Rajkumar to be caught behind.

But he didn’t take long to reconsider his choice. Despite the fact that replays showed the bat to be on the ground and the ball to have missed the willow, the third umpire reversed the on-field decision.

But soon after it was reversed, Ashwin didn’t seem pleased with it and promptly sent the verdict back upstairs once more. For the first time ever in cricket, the second DRS was called after a single ball.

The third umpire repeated the entire procedure but upheld his call of not out.

After the game, when asked about the incident, Ashwin made it clear that he had anticipated the third umpire to check from a different angle. “DRS is a brand-new participant in the competition. Prior to the ball leaving the bat, there was a spike. I wasn’t entirely satisfied; I had hoped they’d take a different perspective, Ashwin said following the game.”

In terms of the game, Ashwin’s team Dindigul Dragons defeated Ba11sy Trichy by chasing down the 121-run target in the 15th over on their own with six wickets in hand. In his four overs, Ashwin finished with the statistics of 2/26.
